Company History

In 1987, a team of economists and scientists from the Russian Academy of Science’s Institute of Economics gathered at Perm State University to work on a variety of econometric forecasting projects for the Ministry of the Economy. Four years later, with establishment of the Russian Federation and the opening of the Russian economy, this university project led to the formation of a software company dedicated to developing analytical and forecasting solutions. The company’s founders named it PROGNOZ–Russian for “forecast”–and built the company on a proud tradition of Russian technological innovation. A year later, in 1992, PROGNOZ unveiled the PROGNOZ Analytical Suite, the company’s first foray into applying IT solutions to statistical analysis methods and econometric modeling.

Nearly 20 years after its founding, PROGNOZ has developed from its academic roots into an innovative provider of Business Intelligence software. While Perm remains the company’s headquarters, PROGNOZ has grown to a staff of more than 1000 talented economists, programmers and analysts who work in cities around the globe, including Moscow, Beijing, Brussels and Washington DC. In addition, the PROGNOZ Analytical Suite has evolved into the PROGNOZ 5 Platform, an all-in-one Business Intelligence solution with Data Integration & Storage, Analysis & OLAP, Monitoring & Reporting and Modeling & Forecasting capabilities. PROGNOZ 5 helps thousands of users, at organizations ranging from large corporations like Gazprom and BNSF Railways to government agencies and universities, to gain valuable insight into complex data and improve the efficiency of their operations.

As information and technology continue to drive our economy and our world, PROGNOZ looks forward to a future of continued innovation and to arming users with powerful technology that allows for better control of data and adds value to their organizations.
